Two Languages, One Proverb

A person is known by the company he keeps

A prophet is not recognized in his own land

All good things come to he who waits

All that glisters is not gold

Birds of a feather flock together

Cut your coat to suit your cloth

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched

Handsome is as handsome does

Jack of all trades, master of none

Let sleeping dogs lie

Out of sight, out of mind

You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs

Too many cooks spoil the broth

P.S : vous pouvez me tutoyer :)

Good proverbs, i like them very much. There is one i didn't understand too well.

"A prophet is not recognized in his own land..."

I wonder what that means.

Thanks for your visit, A's Journey."A prophet is not recognised in his own land" means that when a person is among his/her own people he/she does not usually get the intention and the merit they deserve. When someone gets into a higher social position , for example, nobody recognises it among his/her friends and relatives, whereas they are accepted and recognised once they are among people who know them for the first time.
